From Yugoslavia to the Western Balkans ─ Studies of a European Disunion, 1991-2011

Having conducted research on Yugoslavia for about a decade before its collapse into nationalist rival states, Hayden (anthropology and law, U. of Pittsburgh) chose to track events closely and write on specific legal and anthropological topics--particularly constitutional debates, cultural politics, the construction of revisionist histories of the massacres of World War II, events surrounding the war in Bosnia, and the flaws of international humanitarian law--rather than to attempt to present a unified book on the Balkan conflict. Robert M. Hayden, J.D. (1978), Ph.D. (1981), State University of New York at Buffalo, is Professor of Anthropology and Law, University of Pittsburgh. He has done research in the former Yugoslavia since 1981, and has also worked extensively in India.
