商品簡介
This collection of essays explores the way that Ancient Greek historian Thucydides has influenced both historians as well as literary scholars. The essays are organized into five sections on ideas of history, representations of time and space, politics, narrative, and Thucydides' writing style. Specific essays consider Thucydides' concept of "learning through history," the function and distribution of character judgments in the histories, the presence of the past in Thucydides, transformations of the landscape in Thucydides, Thuycdides and the masses, Thucydides and indirect discourse, narrative modes, attributive discourses, and more. The contributors are mostly professors of history, as well as professors of classical and modern Greek studies. Annotation c2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
