商品簡介
Independent scholar Foletta explores the roles of William Tudor, Willard Phillips, and Richard Henry Dana in shaping American culture in the early-19th century. He considers ways in which the experiences of these three young Federalist intellectuals reflect the broader experiences of American intellectuals, arguing that in calling for a new American literature in their journal, North American Review , they enabled American readers to turn their focus away from imported neoclassical standards. He examines ways in which contributors to the journal were influential in creating the role of the American public intellectual and in the development of a vision for the American university.
