Sovik (MF Norwegian School of Theology) sets out and analyzes four theodicies, that is, rational arguments that a good and omnipotent God exists though there is much evil and suffering in the world. They are Richard Swinburne's greater goods and necessary evils, Keith Ward's concept of God and goals for creation, David R. Griffin's critique of traditional theism and introduction of process theism, and Johan B. Huygens' problem of evil and concept of almightiness. He looks at these systems through the lenses of coherence and authenticity. Annotation c2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
