An introductory essay present the historical origins of ideas about women in science. The bibliography itself is an alphabetical (by author) arrangement of 2,675 annotated entries comprising works from over 30 countries in many languages. The indexing allows access by persons and institutions, themes, fields, in science, type of work (e.g. abstract, biography, book review, encyclopedia), nationality, and period. Sources that provide a basic theoretical framework for understanding the contributions of women in science are included, as well as overlapping materials from the history of technology, medicine, and mathematics.
