商品簡介
The centrality of the 1905 Russo-Japanese war in modern history, believes Kowner (East Asian studies, U. of Haifa, Israel), is still not sufficiently recognized. He aims to correct that problem with this historical dictionary, which not only covers the battles, weaponry, and personalities of the war, but also the international events and conflicts, agreements, schemes, and projects that led to the war, as well as the political, social, and military consequences of the conflict in the years leading up to World War I and occasionally beyond. The dictionary also includes 16 maps, a chronology, and a narrative introduction to the events of the war. Five appendices present selected war documents, a glossary of site names, and information on military ranks and the shifting naval balance in East Asia as it pertains to the war. Originally published in 2006 under the title Historical dictionary of the Russo-Japanese war. Annotation c2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
