Armando Rojas Guardia, born in Caracas in 1949, is one of the seminal voices of contemporary poetry in Latin America. A poet and essayist, he is author of such well-known Spanish literary works as Del mismo amor ardiendo (From the Same Love Burning, 1979); Yo supe de la vieja herida (I Knew About the Old Wound, 1985); Poemas de Quebrada de la Virgen (Poems from the Virgins Creek, 1985); Hacia la noche viva (Towards the Living Night, 1989); Antologia poetica (Poetic Anthology, 1993); and La nada vigilante (The Vigilant Nothingness, 1994). In 1981 he founded the Trafico Group. Of his work it has been said that it is about a chant that celebrates the intimate nuptials between the street and God, between the worlds noise and mystical silence.
