While designing production lines and implementing a continuous improvement plan for Canon early in his career, Mr. Takahara realized the importance of increasing the strength of management and the need for 5S to be implemented thoroughly in order to ensure positive improvement results. His passion for improving the quality of businesses has continuously increased since then, which has led him to pursue a career in business consulting. Though he began his journey into Lean through various industries, Mr. Takahara's strongest interest has emerged in the field of healthcare. Creating a safer, healthier, less stressful, and less wasteful environment increases the happiness and productivity of everyone involved. He has assisted numerous hospitals and clinics in the successful implementation of 5S, greatly reducing the number of medical accidents and wasteful activities prevalent in their facilities. The following are some of the hospitals in Japan which he has been an integral part of leading the way for thorough 5S implementation: ‧ Takeda General Hospital ‧ Iwata City Hospital ‧ Ogikubo Hospital ‧ Hokuriku Central Hospital Mr. Takahara has also worked with more than 20 medical institutions as a guest speaker or workshop facilitator. A few of these institutes include Kyoto University Hospital, Tokai University Hachioji Hospital, and Kitazato University Hospital. Mr. Takahara teaches the 'Basic Action Requirements', each workers daily responsibilities, which are essential for ensuring a company's long-term success, the improvement of workers' problem-solving abilities, and cultivating workers who are able to create and designate their own roles within an organizational setting. Mr. Takahara's continuously strives to better himself, and this truly comes through in his work. He has continued to earn many degrees and certificates through the Sanno Institute of Management and the All-Japan Federation of Management, Zen-Noh-Ren. In 1998 he established his own consulting firm, Basic Management Laboratory, and continues to provide consulting services while maximizing his extensive network within hospitals and corporations across Japan.Mr. Takahara unwaveringly believes that by teaching organizations to focus on their employees as the most valuable resource, the organization itself will change for the better and create an environment where each person holds themselves responsible for change and actively pursues a better working environment.
