Responding to a request from the US Congress, the Academies initiated the America's Energy Future research project. Summaries of presentations to the March 2008 meeting document the first phase of the project, which estimates of the current contribution and future potential of existing and new energy supply and demand technologies, along with their associated impacts and projected costs. Topics include China's contribution to climate change, taking carbon capture and sequestration to scale, solar and wind power, hydrogen as an energy sources, and hybrid electric vehicles.
