商品簡介
Concerned with how religious theater and urban culture met on stage, Hamblin (French, Western Washington U.) analyzes a select corpus of French-language hagiographic plays about historical saints (as opposed to biblical saints) produced in the 15th and 16th centuries, when these plays were at the height of their popularity. Her analysis considers the cultural contexts in which the plays were produced and performed; the cultural content of the plays in relation to the audience communities; comparison of the performative features of the plays in relation to their collective performance history; and how the plays expressed contemporary social perspectives at both localized and generic levels.
