商品簡介
Goscelin of Saint-Bertin, the influential but neglected author of The Legend of Edith amongst other vitae, wrote on behalf of the nuns who related their oral traditions to him. Another of his works, the Liber confortatorius was written to a woman he named Eve, who left Wilton to become a recluse in Angers. This collection includes both of these works in translation with commentary. A collection of articles focuses on Goscelin's writings about the Wilton women, their relationship between St. Edith, her role as a contemplative and bride of Christ, and Wilton's place as a center of learning. Another section focuses on the Liber confortatorius, including its expressions of spiritual friendship and gender difference, structure and motif, consideration of the female reader, and applications of themes from classical Greece and Rome.
