商品簡介
Harp (journalism, U. of Texas at Austin) discusses how newspapers catered to a female readership beginning in the 1890s and created pages specifically to increase this audience. After covering the history of women's pages and how they have evolved, she examines case studies of contemporary examples. Instead of only looking at the content, she considers industry and newsroom choices, changes, and practices to see how they developed and what the attitudes of those working on the pages have been, as well as how the content was structured and driven by market concerns and how a female audience was constructed. Content topics are described, as well as responses of feminist movements to the separation of "women's news." She incorporates interviews with those working at five different newspapers.
