商品簡介
In 2007, a conference was held at the Czech Institute of Egyptology in Prague to discuss the problems of establishing chronology in ancient Egypt. The papers presented here cover methods of dating, starting with reports on the Oxford carbon-14 project as well as including more traditional methods, such as pottery identification and establishing an unbroken dated line of the reigns of kings. Other papers use new evidence to recalculate earlier suppositions on dating, especially that involving the royal families and non-royal elite that give evidence on events. More peripheral aspects of chronology are also addressed, such as the use of intercalary months to maintain the accuracy of the calendar of festivals and the evidence of beetles found in tombs for climate change over time. Inscriptions provide information on the changing meanings of words through the centuries as well as terms of address and titles. Time is also considered in the ways in which the pictorial representations at temples and tombs transmitted Egyptian values and history to future generations. This collection will interest both scholars of Ancient Egypt and the many who are fascinated by the lives and culture of the people who lived then.
