Philosopher at the Skin Edge of Being

Imagining how the philosopher imagines is one way to read and learn a philosophy and is especially suited to the practice of poetry. Sometimes poetry has the ability to be the reality when philosophy can only describe it. Philosopher at the Skin Edge of Being marches through the seasons as Jia-li, a mountain woman, and a girl philosopher inhabit their cosmos, sluicing philosophy of antiquity through twenty-first century existence. They imagine the world as the sages may or may not have.

Susan Andrews Grace? previous books of poetry are Love & Tribal Baseball (BuschekBooks, 2007), Flesh, A Naked Dress (Hagios Press, 2006), Ferry Woman? History of the World (Coteau 1998) and Water is the First World (Coteau Books 1991). Her chapbook Wearing My Father was released by Underwhich Editions in 1990 and her poems have been published in literary periodicals in Canada, US, England, and India. She holds a BA in Philosophy and an MFA in Creative Writing (poetry) and has taught creative writing most recently at Oxygen Art Centre in Nelson, BC. Ferry Woman? History of the World was recipient of Saskatchewan? Book of the Year in 1998. Andrews Grace was a long-time resident of Saskatoon but has lived in Nelson since 2001, where she also maintains a visual art practice.
