For use in secondary social studies and civics classes, Millenson, a former high school teacher and advocacy director of a human rights nonprofit, et al. provide a resource that contains student-centered units and lessons to help make civics relevant, engage students, and teach them strategies for community action. It teaches them the civic knowledge, skills, and outlook needed to take action on an issue, and is aligned with the goals of the non-profit organization Generation Citizen, as well as national standards. Students use the lessons to select a community issue and create and implement a plan of action.
