Jacobs (Judaic studies, U. of Alabama), a second-generation survivor of the Shoah, and his contributors examine the first fifty years of mourning for families lost forever, the quest for meaning in the midst of revisionism, reconsideration, reeducation and attempts to control the pain through literature and art, and the never-ending struggle and search through biblical texts to find meaning and substance. Jacobs shares his experiences in re-reading his father's autobiography, teaching the Shoah across the years to Catholics, Baptists and Methodists, rethinking the role, place and function of Judaism and Christianity after the Shoah, and wrestling with Avraham's monologue with the divine, biblical anti-Semitism and the midrash elements of both Ezekial and Matthew.
