商品簡介
In these 14 papers, many from the September 2001 conference of the Association for the Study of Modern and Contemporary France, contributors examine if and how France is exceptional. As they do so they also examine the nature of national identity and the "normalizing" influence of other cultures and economies. Topics include identifying and conceptualizing how France is different; finding difference in French politics, such as in the particularities of the National Front and French communism; identifying exceptions in French labor, foreign and defense policies; and analyzing differences in French media and popular culture, such as in television, cinema and sport. The final essay examines the differences found in French intellectuals, dubbed "the legendary exception." The editor provides a general bibliography and index.
