商品簡介
Although the philosophy of structural adjustment and the accompanying neoliberalism rose to the fore in the 21st century, Zimbabwe took a different approach with its national land occupation movement. And they have displayed unexpected success with their Fast Track Land Reform Programme (FTLRP). That this radical land redistribution, emphasizing improved land tenure security, along with greater access to land for women occurred in the context of Western sanctions makes it more impressive. This work grew out of presentations at the 2009 African Institute for Agrarian Studies (AIAS) conference, along with annual meetings from 2009 through 2012 of the Agrarian Studies Summer School. In the closing piece the volume arrives at three main lessons: the need to develop autonomous research and intellectual capacity in Africa, that radical change is possible, and that mass mobilizations must take seriously the agrarian sector. A helpful list of acronyms precedes the volume, along with a listing of the tables, figures and boxes. Distributed in North America by the African Books Collective.
