This work, revised and updated for its second edition, collates quotes about cities and urban life from a broad range of literary, historical, political, social, and academic figures (often including multiple quotes from certain notable figures, such as Jane Addams, John Kenneth Galbraith, Benjamin Disraeli, and Robert Moses, to cite a few examples). While there has clearly been an effort to include international voices, there is a notable predominance of Western European and American figures quoted.
