Those commentaries suggesting that Latinos in the United States no longer face any significant racial barriers to integration, just so long as abandon their language and much of their home culture, precisely demonstrate to Feagin (sociology, Texas A&M U.) and Cobas (emeritus, sociology, Arizona State U.) the ongoing white racial framing of assimilation and ongoing systemic racism. In this work, they examine experiences of Latino-American within the context of this ongoing systemic racism, focusing different chapters on the denigration and racialization of the Spanish language, Latinos and the racialization of public spaces, Latino cultural adaptation and conformity, Latino opposition to and support for Affirmative Action programs, Latinos and whiteness, and the future of the US following the great demographic shift with its growing Latino presence.
