商品簡介
This monograph examines the literal and metaphorical construction of Annapolis, and the tension between tradition and modernity that its history embodies. The processes of historification, narrative, modernization, and narrative rupture are specifically examined; and the roles of monuments and memorials are detailed. All of this is, then, related to the practice of archeology, and critiques of that practice. The book attempts "to change field archeology by examining whether we can write, in addition to histories of archeology, archeologies of archeology by focusing on how a critical approach may function in archeological practice" (from the Preface). Black and white photographs and maps support the analysis. Matthews teaches at Hofstra University. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
