I got the idea of writing this and all the other “Alex’s Bilingual Children’s Book Series” because I could not find that many bilingual children’s books in the area where we live. Many times I found myself reading a book in English to my son and then translating it into Spanish so he would practice both languages. Other times, I found myself reading a book in Spanish and translating it into English so my son would understand. I also found that it was hard to find a bilingual book with a good message at the end of the story. This book not only allows kids to learn Spanish and/or English, but hopefully will teach them how the economy affects all of us, including the little ones. While purchasing items at the store, Alex learns why he is getting less stuff for the same price he used to get more of before. In typical Alex fashion, he makes us all laugh with his silly comments! At the end of the story, Alex certainly understands that this economy is hard on everyone, including himself! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do when I read it to my son. Please point to each word in this book as you read to your child so he/she can start recognizing the sounds that each word makes in each language. This book is perfect for children ages 5-9.
