Direct and Inverse Problems in Wave Propagation and Applications

Scientists and engineers survey recent developments in analyzing wave propagation and scattering problems, covering both forward and inverse problems, and applications in the earth sciences. Among the topics are differential electromagnetic imaging, multi-trace boundary integral equations, explicit local time-stepping methods for time-dependent wave propagation, absorbing boundary conditions and perfectly matched layers in wave propagation, and boundary integral equations for Helmholtz boundary value and transmission problems. The eight papers were selected from the November 2011 workshop "Wave Propagation and Scattering, Inverse Problems, and Applications in Energy and the Environment," held in Linz, Austria.
