商品簡介
Arikan (Kahramanmaras Sutcu Iman U., Turkey) compares and contrasts the European Union's accession policies towards Turkey to those adopted towards other applicant countries. He particularly focuses on human rights and the security factor arising from Greco-Turkish disputes, arguing that Turkey has received considerably different treatment than other applicant countries. This different treatment is part of a European policy that is designed to delay the prospect of Turkish membership in the European Union indefinitely wile still keeping Turkey within the economic, security, and political sphere of European influence. This strategy, Arikan argues, is not compatible with the EU's overall enlargement objectives or with the way it has operated with respect to the other applicant countries.
