於一九七七年以第一部得獎小說《A Summer to Die》擄獲了青少年讀者的心。後來她又創作出廣受歡迎的《阿納塔斯西亞‧克魯布尼克》(Anastasia Krupnik)。她是美國紐伯瑞兒童文學獎的得主，一九九○年以《數星星》(Number the Stars)一書獲獎，一九九四年再度以《記憶傳承人》(The Giver )摘下紐伯瑞金牌獎。

 露薏絲‧勞瑞，一九三七年三月出生於夏威夷，父親在軍中擔任牙醫，他們一家人也隨著軍隊移防，遷徙世界各地。二次大戰期間，她住在外祖父母位於賓州的老家，十一歲到上高中之前，則在日本度過；後來進布朗大學就讀，但只修完兩年課程便結婚了，直到生完四個孩子後才重拾課業，從南緬因大學畢業。

露薏絲‧勞瑞的寫作生涯起步較晚，四十歲時才嘗試完成小時候的夢想 當一名作家。結果卻一鳴驚人，如今她不但是世界知名的作家，還獲得兩次紐伯—瑞金牌獎。除了寫兒童小說、短篇故事，她也撰寫評論、專業的論文。

她的寫作題材非常廣泛，風格多樣，有生活幽默小說《阿納塔斯西亞•克魯布尼克》、談戰爭與屠殺的《數星星》、描寫未來烏托邦社會的《記憶傳承人》、此外還有涉及收養、精神疾病、癌症等議題的二十多本著作，堪稱是一位多才、多變的作家。

Lois Lowry is the author of more than thirty books for young adults, including the popular Anastasia Krupnik series. She has received countless honors, among them the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award, the California Young Reader's Medal, and the Mark Twain Award. She received Newbery Medals for two of her novels, NUMBER THE STARS and THE GIVER. Her first novel, A SUMMER TO DIE, was awarded the International Reading Association's Children's Book Award.
