Archaeologists report findings from one of the bison bone sites in Wyoming, where a bison trap was operated about 10,000 years ago by a Paleo-Indian group whose apparent cultural affiliations were the Hell Gap complex. Bison of a type now extinct were herded into a U-shaped sand dune where they were killed, butchered, and further processed. This classic of archaeological reporting covers the archaeology of the Casper Site, a population study of the bison, local fauna and fossil bison, geology, lithic technology, and morphological variation in bison metacarpals and metatarsals. The 1974 edition was published by Academic Press; a new introduction is added to this edition by Marcel Kornfeld (U. of Wyoming, Laramie).
