The articles brought together in this volume not only deal with Tibetan inscriptions on such diverse writing supports as paper, temple walls, rocks and tsha tshas, they also span a wide range in respect to the contents of the historical and religious epigraphs discussed.

Kurt Tropper, Dr. phil. (2001) in Tibetan and Buddhist Studies, is Research Fellow and Lecturer of Classical Tibetan at the University of Vienna. He has published several monographs and articles in the field of Tibetan epigraphy.Cristina Scherrer-Schaub is Buddhologist and Tibetologist, and President of the International Association of Buddhist Studies. She is Professor at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and Directeur d'Etudes at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes Paris (France) and the author of several publications in the field of Old Tibetan and Buddhist Studies.
