HIV/AIDS is one of the major political challenges of our time. For more than two decades, various initiatives have been taken to respond to the disease, not just by governments, but also by research communities, transnational corporations and in the context of civil society. Based on empirical observations from different parts of the world, this book addresses the fact that HIV/AIDS has become increasingly transnational, as nation states extend their programs across broders.
作者簡介
MAJ-LIS FOLLER is Associate Professor in Latin American Studies. She is at present director at the Institute of Iberoamerican Studies, Goteborg University, Sweden. She has spent many years in the Peruvian Amazon working with indigenous health. She is currently working on AIDS-related research in Brazil, and has published several articles on HIV/AIDS in Brazil and was the co-editor of the anthology No Name Fever: AIDS in the Age of Globalization (2005, with Hakan Thorn).
HAKAN THORN is Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology, Goteborg University, Sweden. He has mainly been working on issues related to globalization and social movements, and he has written and co-edited several books on these topics, most recently Anti-Apartheid and the Emergence of a Global Civil Society (2006), and No Name Fever: AIDS in the Age of Globalization (2005, co-edited with Maj-Lis Foller). He was the co-curator of an exhibition on HIV/AIDS and globalization, produced by the Museum of World Culture (inaugurated in December 2004), Goteborg and is currently involved in a research project titled 'Aid and AIDS Governance: Global Influences on Local Strategies in the Context of South African Civil Society'.
