Gynaecologic Cancer ― A Handbook for Students and Practitioners

This handbook provides coverage ranging from the basics of carcinogenesis to advances of the prevention and management of all Gynaecologic cancer, including breast cancer. It introduces readers to the new FIGO 2009 staging system. The handbook is suitable for everyone in the medical field from house officers, pharmacists, doctors, postgraduate students, specialists, fellow in medical oncology, radiation oncology, gynaecology oncology sub-specialty trainees to lecturers in universities, whether local or international.

Dr. Rushdan M. Noor is a certified gynaecologic oncologist and head of the gynaecologic oncology unit of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB), Kedah, Malaysia. Since 2002, Dr. Noor has been appointed by the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) as one of the mentors and trainers for sub-specialty training in gynaecologic oncology. He is also the honorary lecturer for University Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia (Science University of Malaysia), and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia). Dr. Rushdan has held his consultant’s post for the past 15 years, and he was also instrumental in setting up the gynaecologic oncology unit in HSB. This unit was one of the first designated referral centres for gynaecologic oncology patients in Malaysian public hospitals and is now the referral centre for patients with gynaecological malignancies in the northern zone of Peninsular Malaysia. Dr. Noor has practiced gynaecologic oncology for more than 10 years: He was chairman of the gynaecologic oncology unit of O&G Society of Malaysia and a member of the Oncology Drug Committee for the Malaysian Ministry of Health. His experience makes him the most-suitable candidate to head the gynaecologic oncology unit of HSB. He is currently president of the Malaysian Gynaecological Cancer Society. His participation in academic and education activities ranges from gynaecologic oncology researches to local and international workshops, as well as speaking engagements and expert panellist appointments. Dr. Noor has authored six books covering topics on general gynaecology and gynaecologic oncology.

Prof. Jeffrey Low is currently head of the gynaecologic oncology unit at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, National University Health System, Singapore. He is also head of gynaecologic oncology unit at the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore, and visiting gynaecologic oncology consultant to the Singapore General Hospital. He is also associate professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Prof. Low has been the president of the Society for Colposcopy & Cervical Pathology of Singapore (SCCPS). He is one of the founding members of GRACES (gynaecologic robot-assisted cancer & endoscopic surgery), Singapore, which is a leading robotic surgery program in Southeast Asia. His research interest lies in the biology of ovarian cancer.

Prof. Tay Eng Hseon is formally the chairman of gynaecologic oncology division of Asia-Oceania Federation of O&G. He is a very prominent gynaecologic oncologist in Asia and was the former chairman of the medical board and head of gynaecologic oncology services at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Singapore. He was also a founding member and Hon Treasurer of AOGIN and chairman of the gynaecologic oncology unit of the College of O&G, Singapore. He obtained gynaecologic oncology subspecialisation certification from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of O&G (RANZCOG) and is also a recognized gynaecologic oncology trainer there. His current clinical practice is in the Thomson Women Cancer Centre, Singapore.
