商品簡介
Katanski (English, Kalamazoo College) investigates the rich supply of student essays and autobiographies from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, shedding light on the methods employed for assimilating American Indian children and the results. She begins by developing a theory of boarding school literature and the idea of the representative Indian, and then shows how students wrote to make educators respond and created complex devices of rebellion not only in their school essays but in their personal writing and later professional work. She closes by comparing the boarding school repertoire to the American Indian literary tradition. Annotation c2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
