Einarr (1090-1165) was Iceland's premier poet during the 12th century, and his Geisli is the earliest known Nordic Christian drapa, or long stanzaic poem. Martin Chase (English and Medieval studies, Fordham U.) bases his edition on the Flayeyjbok manuscript of the late 14th century, but also draws heavily on the contemporary and only other complete manuscript in Bergsbok. Footnotes on each page include a prose version (in Icelandic, or Old Norse, as is the verse), lexical variants, phonological and spelling variants, and editorial variants.
