商品簡介
This accessible, detailed overview is for undergraduate students and scholars in communication, public health practitioners, and policy makers. Contributors in communication, preventive medicine, and public relations survey current research on tobacco-related messages, considering the effectiveness of anti-smoking public health campaigns and analyzing the logical fallacies contained in messages from tobacco companies. Chapters are grouped in sections on interpersonal, organizational, and mediated communication. Some specific subjects addressed include adolescent social identity and anti-smoking campaigns directed at teens, tobacco use in Native American communities, and the tobacco industry's 'junk science' discourse. Other subjects are the U.S. Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, newspaper coverage of the Comprehensive Clean Indoor Air Debate in Ohio, and anti-smoking videos on a user-created content website.
