商品簡介
In this qualitative as well as quantitative study, Szmrecsanyi argues that those of us who use language are inertial, to the point that analysts can predict with some certainty exactly what we are going to say. Using many examples, he tracks persistence in its alpha and beta forms and through its various configurations, analyzes previous research, and describes his own approach to investigating the effect previous linguistic choices have on upcoming choices through case studies on comparison strategy choice, genitive choice, future marker choice, particle placement, and complementation strategy choice. He has significant findings in textual distance, turn-taking, matching lemmas and morphology, syntactic and lexical complexity, and also finds interesting patterns by age, sex and region.
