The first chapter of this rich study provides a short history of the Alaska Eskimo peoples and their environment. Subsequent chapters describe tools and skin preparation and the boots, parkas, and other wear created from a variety of materials, including seal skin and bird skin. Throughout, the use and variety of the manufacture and type of garment and footwear are described in detail, making this a rich resource of Eskimo people, history, and culture. 作者簡介
Jill Oakes teaches in the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of Manitoba. Rick Riewe is professor of zoology at the University of Manitoba, where he teaches ecology, resource management, and biology. With funding from the Bata Shoe Museum, he and his wife Jill Oakes have lived and studied with the Native peoples of Canada, Alaska, Siberia, Fennoscandia, and Greenland.
