商品簡介
The first Lovis Corinth Colloquium was held in April 2003 at Emory University, and 14 of the presentations have been heavily revised to form the essays here. The inaugural gathering and volume explore the function of images as instruments of soul formation. Among the perspectives presented are the pictorial construction of inner presence in early modern Italy, visual typology in Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights, the rule of metaphor and the play of the viewer in the Hours of Mary of Burgundy, and the cloister as heart in early Netherlandish painting. Most of the many reproductions are monochrome, but 12 color plates are included. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co. Annotation c2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
