商品簡介
Charlemagne and his learned entourage initiated a program to attract divine approval, and this became the Carolingian reform movement within which many bishops wrote letters to the priests under their jurisdiction concerning the qualifications and conduct of priests. Van Rhijn draws on the surviving examples of such letters, and what is known of their context, to examine the ideals of priesthood and the position of local priests in continental Europe during the ninth century.
