商品簡介
Mesa Villar constructs a consistent analysis of the context, types, and iconography associate with Arthurian renditions by painter and poet Rossetti during the mid-19th century, with special emphasis on the female referents in such scenes, the interaction maintained with their male counterparts, and the implications derived from that dynamic. He considers both diachronic and synchronic aspects to gain further insight into the dialogue between the visual and literary examples under study. The themes are tragic amorous relationships in the context of Arthurian experience, female mediating presences midway between the earthly and the divine, and female dependence within the context of chivalric paternalism.
