The Outside World takes place in Medell n. There, time is wrapped in a mist, and voices seem like whistles that get lost among tree branches. A castle-like structure stands watch in the overgrown outskirts of the city, and a blond girl runs out the door. Eyes watch, captivated by this unusual presence, and the girl disappears into the forest. It is 1971, and this girl's father, don Diego, has been kidnapped. El Mono is the leader of the crime ring, whose intention is to demand a million-dollar ransom from the family. El Mono has reasons aside from economics to kidnap don Diego: a romantic obsession with the man's daughter, Isolda, a blonde princess whose father, a devotee of Wagner's operas, has kept her locked in the "castle" to preserve her purity and avoid sullying her with the crude outside world that surrounds them.
作者簡介
Jorge Franco nacio en Medellin (Colombia) en 1962. Realizo estudios de literatura en la Universidad Javeriana y de cine en The London Film School, en el Reino Unido. Con su libro de cuentos Maldito amor gano el Concurso Nacional de Narrativa Pedro Gomez Valderrama, y con la novela Mala noche obtuvo el primer premio en el XIV Concurso Nacional de Novela Ciudad de Pereira y fue finalista en el Premio Nacional de Novela de Colcultura. Su novela, Rosario Tijeras gano la Beca Nacional de Novela del Ministerio de Cultura, fue galardonada con el Premio Internacional de Novela Dashiell Hammett 2000 (Gijon, Espana), y ha sido traducida a mas de quince idiomas y llevada con exito al cine y la television. La adaptacion cinematografica de su novela Paraiso Travel (2001) se convirtio en una de las peliculas mas taquilleras del cine colombiano. Melodrama (2006) fue adaptada a teatro y editada en toda Hispanoamerica. Su ultima novela es Santa suerte (2010). Jorge Franco ha publicado cuentos y articulos en diversas revistas nacionales e internacionales y ha sido invitado por Gabriel Garcia Marquez a dictar con el su taller ?Como se cuenta un cuento? en la Escuela de Cine y Television de San Antonio de los Banos (Cuba).
