There are four extant manuscripts of a 14th-century anonymous interlinear Latin-to-Middle English glossed prose translation of the Book of Psalms, 11 canticles, and the Athanasian Creed. This first of a two-volume edition publishes the Middle English of the base text P (MS Pepys 2498, Magdalene College, University of Cambridge) along with substantive variants in three other manuscripts. The introduction describes the manuscripts and discusses the language of the manuscripts, characteristics of the psalter, characteristics shared by the manuscripts, the canticles, the influence of a French text, the glossator, this psalter's place among English glossed psalters, and editorial procedure. The second volume presents the glossed Latin psalter verses and commentary, a French translation and commentary on it, and commentary on the Middle English text.
