Each annual meeting of the European Association for Animal Production includes six scientific sessions intended to promote dialogue between representatives from science, education, and industry in specific areas. The July 2008 meeting, in Forssa, Finland included a session on the nutrition of horses that are either competing at various levels in various contests or are used for riding education, leisure riding, hobby farming, agri-tourism, therapy, or other areas. The 37 papers cover nutrients and tissue metabolism; adaptations; evaluating the expenditure of energy, protein, minerals, electrolytes, and vitamins; feeding strategies, rationing, and formulating; and performance aids and contaminants. A roundtable talked about the characteristics, utilization, and legislation relating to compounding feedstuffs for horses. There is no index.
