This book brings together 10 essays on cultural scenes in Berlin, Germany, and issues that affect its culture. They discuss queer club culture in the city's Turkish gay bars; the club night and space, Russendisko, and the use of Russian and Balkan music in exoticization; contemporary music-making practices in the pop music industry; the city's underground club culture; underground partygoers; design culture in Berlin; the avant-garde queer film culture in the 1970s and 1980s; the similarities and differences between Berlin and Detroit as techno cities; the electronic arts festival CTM (formerly Club Transmediale); and the problems of the club culture in Berlin's recent configuration as a party-centered creative city.
