商品簡介
From the second half of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th, Greek images prevailed in defining most political theories in English literature, says Lucht, then quite abruptly, Roman images and Latin phrased replaced them. He surveys some examples of English writers using Latin quotations in texts about the British Empire. His topics include Kipling's "Regulus," the function of the Roman culture in Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, imperialism in George Orwell's Burmese Days, and Tom Stoppard's Indian Ink and Memento Mori.
