Truth from the Trenches

It has been well-said that the best commentary on the Bible is the Bible! Truth from the Trenches is a practical, user-friendly resource to help pastors and teachers use biblical stories to illustrate biblical principles. It is a collection of fifty scriptural stories – thirty-five from the Old Testament and fifteen from the New Testament. Each chapter introduces a key thought(s), summarizes the context and major contours of the biblical narrative in focus, and provides suggestions for how the scriptural story can be used to illustrate scriptural truths. Truth from the Trenches also includes three helpful indices. The Scripture Index is a list of every verse or passage cited in the book. The Subject Index is a guide to find discussions on important topics, and the Cross-Reference Index is a summary for how each biblical illustration can be used for a variety of themes in preaching and teaching.

Dr. Pete Charpentier has a Master of Arts degree in New Testament studies from Criswell College. Later, Dr. Charpentier pursued Ph.D. studies in New Testament at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary,
while he served as a full-time associate pastor at a local church in Hammond, LA. It was in this ministry context that God radically began to redirect and reshape his life’s service and studies. God led Dr. Charpentier to take some time off from his schooling while helping his church transition through a very difficult period In God’s time, Dr. Charpentier accepted the senior pastoral role in the church where he had been serving for six years as an associate pastor, and he also resumed studies and completed a D.Min. Degree.
Dr. Charpentier and his wife Wendy eagerly desire to encourage pastors in their calling to serve in and through God’s local churches. They have been married for over twenty years and have two sons, Joseph and Joshua.
