Teaching Science in Culturally Relevant Ways ─ Ideas from Singapore Teachers

A group of science teachers in Singapore collaborated to produce a set of lessons that demonstrate scientific principles using materials and activities that high school students in Singapore would be familiar with. Teachers in nearby regions might be able to apply the lessons directly, and those in other regions could use the collection as an example and inspiration. The topics include using red pigment extracts from pitayas (red dragon fruit) as natural indicators, turmeric spice as natural dye, coconut water, sodium sulfate in a chicken frank, and teaching kinematics using the shuttle run.
