本書是普通高等學校材料科學與工程專業類”材料概論”或相關課程的雙語教材.全書以國外著名的材料科學與工程著作和綜述性論文為基礎,以材料”結構---制備---性能---應用”為主線,系統介紹了材料科學與工程的基本知識,金屬材料,陶瓷材料,玻璃材料,水泥混凝土材料,高分子材料和復合材料的有關部門內容.每一章由若干小節組成,每節又分為基本課文和閱讀材料.在基本課文后附有部分專業詞匯和注釋,閱讀材料中的疑難點在課文中加以注釋.師生們在教學過程中可選擇使用.本書也可供從事材料研究與應用的人員作為了解專業知識,提高英語水平的閱讀材料.
