After a week of constant and demanding news, Telegraph readers up and down the land like to kick back with theSunday tonic that is Oliver Pritchett's humorous and surreal column on modern life.
Ever unafraid to tackle the great matters of the day - and even more at home in the company of the apparently trivial - he might lament the lost art of how to end a tedious phone conversation, report on his investigations into the world's 'superfruits', or answer such a pressing question as: How does one spot a Bank Holiday? Why do we clap at things that don't need applause? or, What is the correct protocol should Prince William land a helicopter in one's garden?
Anthologized for the first time, and illustrated by his son Matt's brilliantly witty cartoons, Oliver's writings reflect upon just how quaint, odd and beautifully absurd life is.
So we invite you to sit back and enjoy this whimsical and comical collection of curious contemplations, which quite simply, well, 'Just occurred to me...'
Oliver Pritchett has been writing for the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph since 1978. In his regular weekend column he takes an oblique, absurdist look at modern life and muses on the great (and not so great) issues of the day. He is father to the cartoonist Matthew Pritchett. He lives in London.
Matthew Pritchett, widely known as just Matt, has been the pocket cartoonist on the Daily Telegraph since 1988 and is one of Britain's best-loved humourists. He is the son of columnist Oliver Pritchett.
