商品簡介
A recently deceased expert (State U. Leiden, The Netherlands) presents a 4,000-year survey of pottery production in Jerusalem from the early Bronze Age to Byzantine period. Unlike most ceramics studies that treat artifacts primarily as indicators of a particular time, this one focuses on pottery and its crafting for their own sake. After introducing the issues in this field, Franken describes pottery excavated in the 1960s made available to him by the British School of Archeology in Jerusalem. Line drawings feature pottery classes and potter's techniques. Among his insights is that third millennium BCE pottery was produced by nomadic families. "Pottery and potters" in the title are reversed on the cover. Distributed in the US by David Brown Book Co. Annotation c2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
