商品簡介
Along with Faiz Ahmad Faiz and N. M. Rashid, Miraji (1912-49) formed the canonical triumvirate of modern Urdu poetry. Patel (women's studies, Wellesley College) combines biography with literary criticism in this examination of the male poet who wrote in a Moslem language under a Hindu women's name and who led a life that challenged political and social mores. She looks at how Miraji encountered the works of earlier writers, the political experience of colonialism, and the strict definitions of gender and sexuality imposed by colonial society.
