Astrid Lindgren (1907–2002) was an influential Swedish children’s book author, best known for creating both the Pippi Longstocking and the Karlsson-on-the-Roof series. She received the gold medal of the Swedish Academy in 1971 and as of May 2013, she was the world’s eighteenth most translated author. She died in Stockholm.
