作者簡介
Kathleen P. Munley, Ph.D., is a local historian and longtime professor of history at Marywood University, Scranton, Pennsylvania. Munley has served on many elected and appointed academic committees at Marywood, was chairperson of the Social Sciences Department, and president of the Faculty Senate. She has developed and directed a Legal Studies Program at the university, which includes an American Bar Association Approved Legal Assistant major. Munley has concentrated her work over the years on studies that deal with topics that reflect the economic, social and political history of northeastern Pennsylvania, and the Scranton-Lackawanna County region. Among her areas of research and publication are studies that focus on labor unionism in the coal and steel industries and the effects of mining on the region, women’s history, and ethno/religious and political history.
Paul R. Mazzoni, D.A., has been a practicing attorney in Lackawanna County for over 52 years, and served the county as its District Attorney for two terms. During his eight-year tenure as D.A. for Lackawanna County, he instituted an anti-drug program in area high schools and prosecuted more election fraud cases than any previous District Attorney. Also, as District Attorney, Mazzoni was the chief prosecutor in the case of theCommonwealth v. William J. Wright; the murderer of Paul Freach and Edmund Keen. In recognition of his outstanding work as District Attorney, Mazzoni was awarded a special Certificate of Merit by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the first District Attorney to be so honored. Mazzoni is a longstanding member and former president of the Lackawanna Bar Association, and a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Criminal Lawyers. Active in community life in the region, in 1960, Mazzoni was appointed by President Dwight Eisenhower to serve as Director of the Census for the Tenth Congressional District. Attorney Mazzoni continues to practice law with the law firm of Mazzoni, Karam, Petorak, and Valvano in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
